The waves of gentle tapping
take rounds as the day goes into night.
Occasionally a spark of lightening or
the deep bass of thunder rolls through
adding anticipation
to the steady tapping.
Sometimes it softens
to just the faintest little tapping
like a fly's wings on glass
trying to escape out a window.
Other times it becomes the chugging
sound of watery traffic,
round after round of rain
whizzing past us.
Then again it subsides and the
almost stillness becomes louder
until the birds take first notice
and declare releif from the rain.
They announce first when it's clear
outside to resume our busy lives.
